The Zooland Family Campground (3671 Pisgah Covered Bridge Road, Asheboro) is a modern and very popular resort with full amenities, including 30/50-amp service, water and sewer. The main office and store offer many amenities and supplies. There is a clean and fun-looking arcade with billiard tables and video games. The campground will be featuring a Halloween Haunted House during our rallyweekend. very large tent-covered outdoor deck can easily accommodate our food and gathering events. Bring your basketball, horseshoes, pets, and fishing poles! The sites are gravel and mostly level.
The North Carolina Zoo (4401 Zoo Parkway, Asheboro) features a North American and a connected African/Asian section. You can roam from one to the other over 5-6 miles and spend a day observing its beautiful natural habitats and world-reknown animal exhibits.
Nearby downtown Asheboro, North Carolina, is a very delightful town and distinguished "2015 Great Main Street Award" recipient and "2016 All-America City". Don’t miss the pottery shops, the unique antique stores and especially the most popular, “Black Lantern Tea Room & Bakery” (137 Sunset Ave, Asheboro). Not to slight those aviation buffs, check out the NC Aviation Museum (2222-G Pilots View Road) Or, even more exciting, the American Classic Motorcycle Museum (1170 US HWY 64W)
Heading south on ALT 220 and HWY 705, will bring you to the town of Seagrove, the historical Pottery Center of our state. Visit first, the North Carolina Pottery Center museum (233 East Avenue, Seagrove) for orientation to over 80 working pottery shops in the area. The best-recommended local restaurant is the Mona-Lisa Italian Restaurant (7042 US 220 ALT). Your hosts, Dawn and Kay, are directly from New York and promise to have the restaurant fully decorated for Halloween!
Moving south-west to Starworks Pumpkin Patch Blown-Glass museum (100 Russell Drive, Star), one can witness the actual firing of a multitude of artistic and lovely glass-blown pieces. Again, the theme is all about Halloween, and hence the “Pumpkin Patch” designation. Further down the road, and closer to the Uwharrie National Forest, one can travel quickly to downtown Troy, NC. Stop at their “Discover Uwharrie Welcome Center” or proceed directly to N. Main Street, where you can browse an eclectic collection of “stuff” at the “Front Porch on Main, Vintage & Handcrafted Goods”, 342 N. Main. Across the street at 401 N. Main, is the ancient and nicely restored Historic Hotel Troy and Dr. Thompson’s Sanitorium c.1926, featuring a most-relaxing “Uwharrie Mercantile” Fresh Coffee and Dry goods Store. They are only open 11-2 and maybe only Tues-Friday, but it’s well worth the planning. One can then drive north into the Forest itself.
Well, enough rambling about that! Make your reservations at the Zooland Family Campground as soon as possible, to obtain one of the 20 reserved full-hookup sites for our ZooWharrie rally. There might be more than 20 available, but if not, there is another lower loop with water and electricity, but no sewer at this point. The sewer MIGHT be ready to go by October. Any remaining sites will be released to the public on September 10th. The campground owner said this is a very busy PRIME week/end because of the Fall/Halloween season, so plan ahead.

After securing your campsite, please come back to the Carolinas Airstream Club website and register for the "ZooWharrie" Rally.
